Year round production for Seasun:

Dutch grower Seasun expanding with 13 hectares

Dutch tomato grower Seasun is adding 13 hectares of greenhouse with supplemental lighting. With the expansion, Seasun grows to a total of 63 hectares.

In October the plants should be in, in order to achieve this, Havecon has to start with the construction of the new 13 hectares as soon as possible. The greenhouse will be 7.23m high under the gutter. The roof will have glass with AR coating and a hazefactor of 45-50. Grower Wim Gresnigt: "We had no production in the winter yet. That was quite a loss. Not only in terms of year-round sales but also in terms of labor. With this year round producing greenhouse we can optimize our sales and labour planning."

New construction

"It took a while – we’ve been working on it for a couple of years. The development plan had to be changed in order to apply supplemental lighting. That didn’t come off without a hitch. Now that it is possible it doesn’t mean that our whole acreage will be lit eventually. We’ll be starting with lit cultivation in the new greenhouse first."

Seasun markets its own produce. Under the label Esly they produce truss cherries, loose and medium truss tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes and four colors of pepper. Under the brands Ruby, Rosy and Gracy they also offer a range of snack tomatoes.
