Russia returns 16 tons of Chinese cabbage to Turkey

Russia refused the entry of 16.3 tons of Chinese cabbage being imported from Turkey on the basis of the presence of western flower thrips.

In a statement, the Russian Federal Plant Protection and Quarantine Service (Rosselhoznadzor), said that the cabbage which arrived by ship from Turkey in the Novorossiysk port, was found to contain western flower thrips and therefore was forbidden entry to the country.

Rosselhoznadzor's press office said in a written statement, "Chinese cabbage does not feature on the list of banned products for import from Turkey, which has been in operation since January 1, 2016. The product being returned has nothing to do with the sanctions. A harmful pest which is forbidden in Russia was found in the cabbages.”
