Davide Cattori:

"Swiss only want to eat locally grown vegetables"

Davide Cattori from Swiss Giubiasco is a young, dedicated vegetable grower in heart and soul. Some of his field tomatoes are sold directly to the customer: "It is important that we show ourselves from time to time and explain to our customers how we produce these wonderful vegetables!"

Davide never considered another profession: "I had my own little garden at a very young age, where I sowed vegetables, raked, planted and harvested." His garden remained a major hobby as he grew older.

Producing close to the customer
He is currently responsible for the greenhouse production at the family business 'Tomato Agro SA’. "Fortunately Swiss consumers want to eat vegetables that are grown in Switzerland and I have the pleasure of producing these vegetables," he says with a laugh. From own experience he says that producing close to the customers is the strength of the Swiss agricultural sector. A small portion of production is sold directly to customers, who often ask how their vegetables were produced.

When Agro Tomato SA recently held an open day allowing the population to visit the company, Davide experienced how large the distance to agriculture has become for many people: "It is important that we show ourselves from time to time and explain our sustainable vegetable production method to people."

Here and there Davide is personally present for sales in stores, explaining the background of production and advertising Swiss vegetables. He generally uses every opportunity to advertise vegetables. Through direct sales, online through www.agrotomato.ch or on Facebook. He is also pleased with the basic advertising by the 'Schweizer Bauernverband' [Swiss Farmers Union] in the electronic media or on posters for the Swiss agricultural sector.
