Dutch geothermal project in Vierpolders officially launched

The derrick stands, drilling has begun. Involved parties were invited to take a look at the geothermal project in Vierpolders. It is now at 700 meters of depth, that is only the beginning, the well will be 2,3 km deep, (the drill can get to a depth of 3 km).

Drilling will take approximately 3 months. After that the pipelines will be laid to the participating companies. The water will be around 85 up to 90 degrees celcius. Participating companies are: Kwekerij Noordermeer Hellevoetsluis, Gebroeders Noordermeer, Van der Voort Brielle, YoungGrow, Vitensa, Islandplant, Tabos Aubergine, Kwekerij Nederpelt en Globe Plant.

Save 70% on natural gas
The initiator and project leader, Paul Grootscholten from Globe Plant welcomed the guests at the tomato nursery Van der Voort Brielle and Rabobank provided a drink and snack. He thanked all participants, advisors, the RVO for the subsidy and the town Vierpolders. He also paid attention to the obstacles they had encountered. "Every company had excellent entrepreneurs, but it was a challenge to keep just one goal. The goal is: save on natural gas and we are realizing it. We expect to save up to 70%, that would be awesome."

Entrepreneurs should do it
Saskia Hoogendoorn from Hydreco Geomec and Dick Verbeek, a functionary from the town Vierpolders, explained the history behind the project. "It has been a few years. The plan was to drill about 800m deep and collect hot water there. This was the plan of T4P and the community, unfortunately it didn't work out. The initiative should come from the entrepreneurs," says Verbeek

Stressful
It remains stressful. The whole project is a experiment. There are also complications at other geothermal projects. People wait until really hot water comes out of the ground before they place the pipelines. But the well is here, there was extensive research and everyone trusts in the project.

The opening was done by the children of some of the participating growers by revealing a banner.
