Russian midi cucumber grower achieves 73 kg/m2 with semi-closed greenhouse

The introduction of Ultra-Clima® was a world first which by now has proved itself with the realisation of more than 200 hectares in different climate zones worldwide. The Ultra-Clima® opens up possibilities that previously seemed impossible. The latest world first that KUBO has managed to achieve with one of its customers is the production of midi-cucumbers in an Ultra-Clima® with lighting and interplanting over a period of 7 months. The objective was to achieve 50 kg of midi-cucumbers with two crops. After planting in December last year, a production of 73 kg per m2 was surprisingly achieved after two crops. If you take in consideration that this is Lipetsk first midi-cucumber crop we are quite happy with the result.

Cultivation consultant Eef Maassen of Vortus supervised the cultivation: "It is extraordinary to observe that 'zero' pesticide applications were carried out on two crops!" When asked how it was possible that not a single trace of mildew was found, Maassen replied: "The biggest selling point is being able to use the great potential of the Ultra-Clima® for which it is intended; an optimum active climate with hardly any difference in humidity between day and night. A difference of 20% or more relative humidity will lead to an infestation of mildew. This type is IR-tolerant. The plants were in optimum condition, resulting in sufficient stomata opening to ensure optimum CO2 intake. The prevention of stress moments in the plant is then immediately noticeable in the production numbers," says Maassen.

This milestone once again demonstrates the great potential of Ultra-Clima®, whereby not only the productivity and quality significantly rise, but the use of energy and pesticides is kept to a minimum. This ultimately results in better marketing opportunities and better prices through better product quality. In cooperation with Vortus, subsidiary organisation ClimaConnect continues to develop tools and technology to help clients further. We will keep you informed!
