Canada: Guelph students place third in international food and agribusiness competition

A joint University of Guelph (UofG) and University of Lethbridge student team placed third in the student case competition at the recent International Food and Agribusiness Management Association World Conference.

The competition, held June 15-16 in St. Paul Minneapolis, is a Harvard style case competition for undergraduate and graduate student teams.

Anthony Dube, Ashley Harnarine and Bailey Sherratt of UofG were joined by teammates Phyllis MacCallum and Monica Gorham of Lethbridge. They competed against 19 teams from North America, Europe and Africa and were the only undergraduate team to make it to the competition finals.

Dube, a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Commerce degree in food and agricultural business, was thrilled by the opportunity to compete and network.

"Getting involved in the IFAMA case competition gave me an opportunity to work in a team that was very disciplined and dedicated," shares Dube. "The competition created a platform to exhibit our talents as students to the international business community and was a great networking opportunity."

The International Food and Agribusiness Management Association World Conference is an interactive series of presentations and discussions by top executives and researchers focused on timely issues impacting the global food chain.

"We are very proud of Anthony and his teammates. This is a great accomplishment at an international competition," shares John Cranfield, chair of the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics.
