Just like last year, a lot of sweet pepper growers are investing in a diffuse coating from Mardenkro. According to the Dutch contractors (who spray 85% of all coatings in the Netherlands) more than 400 ha (± 1,000 acre) of pepper growers in the Netherlands are already using ReduFuse. This is 1/3 of the total pepper acreage of 1,300 ha in the Netherlands. ReduFuse is especially beneficial for; varieties that need more growth in the summer months, have fruits that have blossom end rot easily and crops that get burned fruits from direct sunlight. The low light loss and high diffusion (haze) gives less stress on the crop and a more even greenhouse climate.
Though we have not had very high temperatures yet, Mardenkro notices that more pepper growers are applying ReduFuse as an extra insurance. The growers understand that quality damage caused by hot weather can cost a lot more than the coating itself.
The coming weeks Mardenkro will provide consultancy to pepper growers who have no experience with ReduFuse or wish to have more information. This support is focusing on the questions of how to grow with ReduFuse and how to adjust the greenhouse climate to ReduFuse. Within Mardenkro Jeroen van Leeuwen is responsible for this activity. Next to Jeroen, we collaborate closely with several external advisors , like Wim van Wingerden from ClimateAnalysis. The experience of Wim in growing peppers combined with his knowledge on ReduFuse is beneficial for most growers. Finally, the global network of crop consultants has been updated with the latest information about all ReduSystems coatings including ReduFuse.
