Australia: Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus threat to Northern Territory's $60 million industry

Nothing can be done to stop a plant disease which has devastated industries in other countries and is now in the NT, the government says.

Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV) destroys the flesh of pumpkins, zucchinis, squashes, melons and cucumbers and has crippled industries in Asia, the Middle East and some parts of the US.

The virus was first detected last year at five farms in the Katherine region and has now spread to more than 21 farms.

It means the Territory's $60 million industry could be compromised.
