Israel: Hazera launches two new red pepper varieties at Arava exhibition
Hazera Company presented two new pepper varieties named Efe and Tzalaf at the Arava exhibition 2015. In addition to their strikingly intense color and excellent flavor, these are high-quality varieties suitable for winter growing, that maintain uniformity of shape throughout the growing season.
Efe was developed for early planting, and offers a large blocky fruit of fine quality, yielding fruit throughout the growing season.
Tzalaf’s high-quality blocky fruit yield is concentrated for end-of-the-season picking, with its specifications making it especially suitable for exporting to the premium markets in Western Europe.
The properties of these new varieties include both high resistance levels as well as high-quality yields for growers.
According to Itzik Ezra, Israel Marketing Director at Hazera company: “Hazera’s market segment in the peppers sector has seen continual and substantial growth in recent years, due to the high level of expertise of our pepper breeders. We are hard at work in the development of varieties suitable for the growing conditions in Israel, both from the point of view of climate as well as greenhouse cultivation methods. At the end of the day, this helps growers enjoy high yields, due to the high quality, high-resistance varieties.”
Peppers have high nutritional values, with studies indicating that eating peppers contribute to the prevention of heart disease, slows the aging process, contributes to the health of the digestive tract and maintains stable blood sugar levels.
