Meeting EU plant

"Quality data about seeds increasingly important"

The annual meeting of EU Plant took place last week in Sicily. EU Plant is the European Association of Vegetable Plant Nurseries. At the meeting it was stressed how increasingly important it is to keep quality data about seeds.

Registering only data on the germination percentage of a seed is no longer enough. Information on the number of good plants produced by a seed batch is necessary to prevent sowing too much or too little. Excessive seeding is unprofitable, and too little seeding entails a shortage of plants. EU Plant decided to prioritise placing a stronger focus on good quality data in this regard.

Assoplant, the Italian association of nurseries, organised an excursion to the cultivation companies Il Vivaio and Area Verde. At the latter, the workers were busy with grafting.
