HDC students engaging with TGA

A major focus of HDC’s work is investing in and securing the future skills of our industry. Since its inception in 2000, the HDC PhD Studentship Scheme has helped to deliver practical scientific developments that are both relevant and beneficial to the industry’s priorities. Crucially, the scheme has helped to develop the next generation of technical experts, and delivered high-calibre individuals to the horticulture industry for employment within both the commercial and academic horticultural arenas.

HDC Studentship Conference

The annual HDC Studentship Conference provides the opportunity for HDC funded students to meet with one another, as well as representatives from industry, to discuss and share their horticultural work and get an idea of the types of industry careers that exist.

As well as providing the opportunity for students to visit growers and to learn more about the practical challenges of crop production, the wider industry is welcomed at the Conference which is primarily focused on student/industry liaison and an update on current studentship research progress.

HDC students engaging with TGA

This year for the first time, the 2014 UK Tomato Conference will feature a selected number of HDC funded students in a bid to ‘look to the future’ and encourage industry liaison and discussions. The morning session will conclude with a selection of HDC students giving a brief insight into their work, followed by a poster session, and will provide an opportunity for all to meet some of the future innovators in the industry.

HDC continues to fund research to enhance grower business competitiveness and sustainability.
