Farwest 2014 unveils new optimizing greenhouse technologies with speaker from Peace Tree Farm and DRAMMwater

The 2014 Farwest Trade Show, August 21-23 in Portland, Oregon, will host a seminar entitled, Using New Technologies to Optimize the Greenhouse Environment for Efficiency and Increased Profitability, on Thursday, August 21, 9-11am. Presenters Lloyd Traven, Partner, Peace Tree Farm, and Al Zylstra, Division Manager, DRAMMwater, a division of DRAMM Corporation, will take a close look at emerging greenhouse technologies that are enhancing growing conditions, increasing efficiencies, and adding profitability. The new directions in optimizations are applicable to propagation, potted production, and nursery growing.

Traven and Zylstra will focus on irrigation management, water disinfection, lighting methods, and oxygen saturation of water. Key to their talk is a message that these emerging technologies have potential to integrate with existing equipment, incorporating new data and sensor driven methods in ways that take current operations to greater efficiencies and automation.

The new technologies touch on a host of innovations including individual plant-purposed water logistics, solid state technology from Damatex and Argus that control small applications of water on crop basis, LED and high intensity lighting equipment and techniques, and DRAMMwater technology for driving higher levels of dissolved oxygen into water.

“This presentation is one more example of Farwest’s mission to be the industry forum for innovations in greenhouse production,” says Allan Niemi, Director of Events & Education at the Oregon Association of Nurseries, producers of the Farwest Trade Show. “Lloyd and Al stay on the cutting edge of technology that enhances growing operations. We’re thrilled they are a part of our education program this year.” Farwest offers a range of events and speakers that will focus on issues and ideas relevant to greenhouse producers of all types of plant material. Farwest will showcase the best and brightest of industry experts, innovative companies, first-time plant releases, new products, research, and continuing education.
