6 tips for good hygiene in the greenhouse horticulture

With constantly emerging viruses, pests and diseases in the greenhouse horticulture, hygiene in the greenhouse is an important and much-discussed topic. Clean hands, clean machines and clean water ensure a clean greenhouse, and therefore also clean crops. Steenks Service provides some tips for hygienic working in greenhouse horticulture.

Disinfection gate at the entrance of the greenhouse
A disinfection gate (hygiene station) is one of the most important tools in the greenhouse. By allowing all visitors and employees to use the disinfection gate at the entrance of the greenhouse, you minimize the chance of diseases getting into the greenhouse. In the hygiene station, both the hands and shoe soles are disinfected with a disinfectant.

Working hygienically with a dipcontainer
During the work in the greenhouse it is also essential to regularly disinfect the hands. The Berkvens dipcontainer can be mounted on different types of pipe rail trolleys. Due to the timer installed on the machine, the pipe rail trolley will stop frequently, after which the employee can disinfect their hands. This way you can be sure that your employees work hygienically.

Clean the cultivation floor
Do you use ground cover to overlay your cultivation floor or container field? To prevent diseases and pests, it is crucial to thoroughly clean the cloth during the crop change. Doing this manually will cost you a lot of time. Moreover, this does not achieve the same result as when it is done mechanically. With the Stefix 135 of Steenks Service, your ground cover can be cleaned quickly and powerfully. The machine leaves no tracks or damages on soft or irregular floors, and can handle up to 10,000 square meters per hour.

Clean your machines thoroughly
The machines and tools that are used in the greenhouse will also have to be thoroughly cleaned regularly. Frekofix (a detergent) is ideal for this. Green pigments, smoke stains, oils, greases, and algae will disappear completely.

Clean the greenhouse windows
You can easily clean the windows of the greenhouse with a greenhouse roof cleaner. Steenks Service offers machines for cleaning both the inside and the outside of the greenhouse windows. With a greenhouse roof cleaner your windows are cleaned properly, and hard-to-reach spots can be easily reached.

Draw up a hygiene plan
In order to guarantee good hygiene in the greenhouse, it is advisable to identify the risks and draw up a hygiene plan. A hygiene plan describes which measures are taken within the company and when these must be observed. Of course, hygiene must be checked periodically to tighten the hygiene protocol where necessary.
