The Role

Sunniva has an exceptional opportunity for a Maintenance Manager.  This individual will be key to drive the overall strategy for site maintenance at our large-scale cultivation greenhouse including infrastructure, equipment maintenance, facility maintenance, instrumentation, plumbing, electrical, and control systems.  As part of the Greenhouse leadership team, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing analytical problem solving, root cause analysis and creativity/innovation to improve key business drivers.  In this role, you will lead a team of maintenance technicians and ensure we adhere to all health, safety and other legislative requirements. 


Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner with Head Grower, General Manager and the Operations team to manage project priorities and project completion to expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all equipment and infrastructure is fully operational at all times including pneumatics systems, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Manage, motivate, train, evaluate, and review a team of maintenance professionals.  This includes scheduling maintenance employees to work on projects, repairs, and preventative maintenance in a timely manner within budgetary constraints.
  • Oversee the hiring and use of contractors and contracted maintenance employees (as needed) working on company property and equipment, ensuring they work safely and efficiently.
  • Establish, develop and execute the maintenance department goals and strategy to complement overall company goals.
  • Maintain and repair all lighting components in the greenhouse.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance in a productive and safe manner.
  • Investigate and diagnose causes of breakdowns and develop programs and solutions to reduce/eliminate future occurrences.
  • Direct facility-wide maintenance activities including budgets, preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Ensure all preventative maintenance is routinely completed in accordance with our greenhouse schedules and documented and uphold a preventative maintenance program.
  • Maximize greenhouse/equipment uptime by effectively managing scheduled and unscheduled resource demands.
  • Understand, follow, and enforce all safety, health, quality cGMP and Company policies. 
  • Confirm accurate and complete documentation of all maintenance logs.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Pneumatics, or related is preferred.
  • Successful completion of an approved Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship-Journey-level status, or equivalent experience in the Electrical Trade.
  • 10+ years of experience in facilities maintenance to include HVAC, plumbing, electrical and metal fabrication.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Work experience in the greenhouse sector and with the hydroponic growing industry is highly desired.


Skills, Knowledge, and Ability

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and competency required for this role:

  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work at heights for roof, glass, vent or screen repairs.
  • Flexibility to work On Call, 24/7 via iPhone and electronic communication from greenhouse environmental control system.
  • Ability to build relationships with suppliers for negotiations on parts and supplies.
  • Proven ability to make good judgements, on-the-spot emergency calls and good decisions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with people at all levels in the organization to drive results.


Working Environment

  • Greenhouse environment with background noise that approaches 70dcbs.
  • Position requires sitting, standing, and walking on a regular basis.
  • Visual and audio sensory are needed regularly.
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform computer skills and operate equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
