About our client:
They are a well-established fresh produce supplier known for our commitment to quality and excellence. The company is a trusted partner to a key retailers, providing a select range of fresh vegetables to satisfy the requirements of their retail customers. As a key player in the industry, they value strong relationships with growers and prioritize sustainability in our sourcing practices. They are looking to extend their sourcing reach into Europe to give 12 month supply to their retail customers and hence why they now require a Head of Procurement who can assist them in their planned and positive growth.

The Role:
As the Head of Procurement, you will oversee their vegetable procurement operations, managing sourcing activities, and building strategic partnerships with UK and European growers. You will be responsible for ensuring a reliable and cost-effective supply chain while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Key responsibilities include:

• Sourcing Strategy: Develop and implement a robust procurement strategy aligned with the company’s objectives, focusing on identifying and engaging with UK and European growers to source a specific range of fresh vegetables.
• Supplier Relationships: Establish and cultivate strong relationships with growers, negotiating contracts, and developing long-term partnerships. Monitor supplier performance, address any issues, and drive continuous improvement in quality, pricing, and delivery.
• Quality Assurance: Define and enforce stringent quality standards to ensure the delivery of premium-grade vegetables. Collaborate with growers to implement quality control processes, including inspections, certifications, and adherence to food safety regulations.
• Supply Chain Optimisation: Optimise the end-to-end supply chain to minimise lead times, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency. Work closely with logistics and operations teams to coordinate timely deliveries, manage inventory levels, and mitigate any supply disruptions.
• Market Analysis: Stay updated on market trends, pricing dynamics, and regulatory changes affecting the fresh produce industry. Analyse market data to make informed purchasing decisions, identify potential risks, and capitalise on emerging opportunities.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in procurement or sourcing roles within the fresh produce industry – specifically brassica’s.
• Strong knowledge of the UK and European vegetable market, including supplier networks and seasonality.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills to build effective relationships with growers and suppliers.
• Ability to analyse market trends, pricing structures, and quality standards to make informed procurement decisions.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with sustainability practices and the ability to promote ethical sourcing initiatives.
• Proactive problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset to optimise procurement processes.
• Degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
