Red Sea Farms (“RSF”) is a fast growing, multiple award-winning company based in Saudi Arabia and the UAE focussed on smart saltwater agriculture. As part of our expansion we are recruiting a Head of Horticulture to oversee greenhouse managers and growing operations. You will be the one to develop and implement the strategy for horticulture at RSF in concert with the team of horticulture and business managers and directors. In addition, you will work with a diverse team of colleagues to deliver the highest standard of operations. The Head of Horticulture position is an opportunity to leave your mark as well as grow in an exciting industry and with a company that is experiencing rapid expansion.

Preferred candidates will have education and experience in greenhouse horticulture that is directly applicable in Saudi Arabia and the GCC but must have a global perspective and ambition.

The preferred candidate is expected to have a strong work ethic, a commitment to leadership by example, and a hunger for continuous learning. The candidate must be willing and able to complete basic office tasks, executive-level presentation, training of new hires, and long hours of physical work in the greenhouse if and when required.

The role’s primary responsibilities are listed but not limited to the below:
● Greenhouse Management and Know-how
○ All duties related to plant care
○ Planning and implementation of pest and disease management
○ Fertilization management
○ Strategy and planning for crop planting and harvest
○ Detailed record-keeping
○ Strategic management decisions based on climate and fertigation data
○ Cleaning and sanitizing as needed
○ Coordination and planning with business and finance teams
○ Greenhouse operations and business models
○ Reporting
● Translation of horticulture experience and operations to technology for continuous improvement of horticulture processes and quality
○ Integration of sensors and monitoring equipment
○ Communication with software and hardware development teams and implementation of developed systems, with continuous feedback and improvement
● Provide executive level presentations and reporting of horticulture strategy to both internal and external teams
● Maintain and demonstrate a deep knowledge of the markets and industry of the company
● Facilitate training and development of junior staff
● Commit to continuous personal and company improvement and professional development

This role will report directly to the Chief Science Officer (CSO) and is expected to require:
● Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field; MSc and/or PhD will be strongly preferred, but not required
● 10+ years experience
● Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
● Ability to perform physical tasks like planting, harvesting, and maintenance and also train others to do so
● Outstanding people skills, including demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
● Demonstrated

○ comfort with a range of digital technologies
● Willingness to
○ travel, as required
○ work during the weekends, holidays and in emergency situations, as required. (Comp time for these hours will be provided.)

● Full time (minimum 40 hours per week)
● Fluent in spoken and written English (required) and Arabic (preferred). Clear presentation and written communication skills are a must.

The RSF Office at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia with travel around Saudi Arabia and to the UAE.
