Strawberry production in Afghanistan increased by 9% this year compared to 2024, according to data released by the Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.
The ministry reported a total national production of 681 tons of strawberries in 2025, up from 622 tons the previous year. The data indicate a steady expansion of strawberry cultivation across multiple provinces.
Increased cultivation area and yields
According to the ministry, a total of 1,081 hectares of land across six provinces were cultivated with strawberries this year, compared to 575 hectares in 2024. The highest yields were recorded in Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar provinces. The crop is also grown in Badakhshan, Panjshir, and Daikundi.
Market and quality outlook
The ministry noted that strawberries are regarded as a high-value agricultural product in Afghanistan and continue to expand due to favourable climatic conditions. The crop is described as competitive in quality with imported varieties and maintains a stable domestic market.
