Harvey Cleeton - Vitafresh Produce:

"We will have our first Spanish peppers in the last week of October"

The English and Dutch bell pepper seasons are nearing their end, and Vitafresh Produce is looking forward to the Spanish import season.

"We are at the end of our Dutch and English pepper seasons," said Harvey Cleeton from Vitafresh Produce. "This summer, the hot weather did cause some periods of over-production in England. We will have our first Spanish peppers in the last week of October. According to our growers, it is looking, at the moment, to be a pretty normal season."

Vitafresh sources from various growers in Southern Spain; GODOY is one of the main ones. The company imports red, green, yellow, and orange peppers for wholesale and food service.

"As well as bell pepper, we also import tomatoes and chillies from Spain," said Harvey. "We have a good grower base in Spain and talk daily or weekly with them. They can always supply extra volume if needed, and they also have a quick turnaround from picking to shipping to delivery. The peppers are trucked to our warehouse in the UK via France."

"Demand for peppers is good in the UK at the moment. We may see some extra product on the market in the coming weeks as the UK and Dutch seasons end and the Spanish imports begin. I think the Spanish supply with the better quality, new season peppers will hit the ground running with good consistency."
