Lower production expected for zucchinis in 2025

"According to forecasts as of June 1st, 2025, French zucchini production is estimated at 129,800 tons for the 2025 campaign, which is 9% lower (-13,400 tons) than in 2024. In May 2025, prices were 31% lower than in 2024 and 15% lower than the 2020-2024 average for the same month," according to the Agreste economic outlook.

Weather disruptions at the start of the season
National acreage for the 2025 season is expected to rise to 4,267 hectares, which is 2% higher than the 2020-2024 average (with the increase concentrated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region). National production is estimated at 129,800 tons in 2025, which is 9% lower than last year (and down by 21% from the five-year average). The rain, cold, and lack of light have not been favorable to production in the Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions, which are therefore expected to get lower yields than in previous years.

Weather penalized prices in May
"In May, prices were well below those of 2024 (-31%) and the five-year average (-15%). The demand was weak due to unfavorable weather conditions, so volumes on the market remained high.

Between January and April 2025, and compared with the same period last year, zucchini exports (10,500 tons), including significant volumes re-exported, were down by 7%, while imports (74,700 tons) were up by 6%. The foreign trade deficit in volume terms (64,200 tons) increased by 9% over the period under review."
