US (WI): New berry offered by Cottage Grove growers

Warm Belly Farm is offering a new berry for fruit lovers this season from their garden center in Cottage Grove. Honeyberries are an irregular-shaped, elongated, blue berry that grow on bushes.

Similar to blueberries the haskaps (honeyberries) are now available for $3 per quarter pint. The family-run farm also invites customers to pick their own strawberries that are grown in a unique hydroponic operation.

"Because we can give them the nutrients they need through our emitter system, they get exactly what is needed for them to become the best strawberries that we can have and we also have more control having it in a greenhouse," explained strawberry crew leader Karen Lee.

Warm Belly start growing strawberries in March which puts them ahead of the tradition strawberry season which stems from mid-June to early July. You can check the growing process and make your strawberry picking appointment, online.
