Starting this fall, Royal Pride is set to expand its product line by cultivating mini and midi cucumbers, which will be sold through Harvest House. This move ensures that the entire range of cucumbers remains available within the cooperative, especially since Wijnen Square Crops is discontinuing the cultivation of these varieties.
Hans Derks, Commercial Director at Harvest House, expressed his satisfaction with Royal Pride's decision to continue the cultivation of mini and midi cucumbers. "We're pleased that Royal Pride is building on the foundation laid by Wijnen. This ensures we maintain a complete range and continue to serve our customers optimally. Within our cooperative, we carefully coordinate who grows which products to keep our supply chain strong, flexible, and future-proof. Royal Pride is a proven specialist, consistently delivering the quality that our customers expect."
Koert van den Ende, General Manager at Royal Pride, shared that the introduction of mini and midi cucumber varieties is a natural progression for the company. "We have been growing regular cucumbers for many years, so adding mini and midi varieties is a logical extension of our range. The midi cucumber, in particular, is designed as a sustainable alternative to the traditional 'portion' cucumber for the British market. It's a compact and efficient solution that aligns well with the demands of both retailers and consumers."

Deze week opent Royal Pride een gloednieuwe kas met de nieuwste technologieën om de teelt zo duurzaam mogelijk te maken. Met deze uitbreiding groeit het totale areaal van het bedrijf naar 77 hectare, waarvan 40 hectare nu is gewijd aan de komkommerteelt. Ondanks hun groeiambitie in de komkommersector, blijft Royal Pride in Middenmeer ook cherry- en cocktailtrostomaten telen. Dit is een bewuste keuze voor zowel diversificatie als kwaliteit.
