As Almería's greenhouse fruit and vegetable season nears its end, an analysis by Hortoinfo, based on weekly data collected in local auctions, reveals the price evolution of the main tomato varieties (long-life, pear, and branch) throughout the season.
The long-life tomato season began in September 2024, with an average weekly price of € 1.04 per kilogram. In October, it reached its best monthly record with €1.23/kg. However, in November, it fell to €0.98/kg, and in December, to €0.93/kg. In January 2025, the price rebounded to €1.16/kg, but in February it fell again to €0.80/kg. In March and April, the price recovered slightly to €0.85 and €0.84/kg, respectively, and in May, it fell to €0.67/kg.
Pear tomatoes started the season with an average weekly price of €1.02/kg in September, which rose to €1.23/kg in October. However, prices fell to €0.98/kg in November and €0.80/kg in December. In January 2025, the price rose to €1.09/kg. In February, it fell to €0.85/kg, and in March it rebounded to €1.33/kg. It then fell to €1.07/kg in April and closed May at €0.65/kg.
The price of branch tomatoes stood at €1.34/kg in September (the highest price among the different tomato varieties), and rose to €1.58/kg in October. It then fell to €1.26/kg in November and €0.85/kg in December. In January, the price recovered to €1.17/kg. In the following months, it was highly volatile. In February, it fell to €0.82/kg. In March, it rebounded to €1.26/kg, and then it fell in April to €0.76/kg, and in May to €0.42/kg, the lowest level of the season.
This behaviour reflects a downward trend in prices during the final part of the season, despite some occasional upturns at the beginning of 2025.
