More and more strawberries are appearing on Ukrainian markets, and their prices are gradually falling. However, the cost of the berry is still higher than last year. This is due to unfavorable weather conditions that have affected the new harvest.
Strawberries are the first Ukrainian berries to appear on the market in spring. Traditionally, at the end of May, market and store shelves are filled with baskets of strawberries, and prices drop. However, this year the situation is somewhat different. Although the supply of berries from Ukrainian farms is increasing, its cost hits the pocket.
According to the information from the wholesale market of agricultural products "Shuvar," currently Ukrainian strawberries, mainly from Transcarpathia, are displacing imported products from Turkey, Greece, and Spain.
As the head of the marketing department of "Shuvar," Tetiana Popovych, shared, in the third decade of May, prices for Ukrainian strawberries fluctuate within the range of 120-144 UAH/kg in the Lviv market. However, last year during the same period, the average price was around 98 UAH/kg, indicating an increase of 22-30% depending on the region and supply volumes.
