India: Experimental greenhouse-based bell pepper growing successful

An experimental project of growing coloured capsicum came as a new ray of hope for the farmers aspiring to attain financial autonomy through progressive farming. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kailashahar has tasted success in its experiment of growing coloured capsicum, especially the yellow variant of the crop, in a limited space of 100 square meter area covered under a greenhouse.

The KVK authorities have so far invited over 30 farmers and demonstrated the mechanism in which this special farming is needed to be carried out. Capsicum is one of the expensive agricultural products for the markets of Tripura. Moreover, the demand for agricultural goods is also skyrocketing because of the rapid expansion of eateries serving Chinese cuisine. In almost all Chinese dishes, Capsicum is considered to be an essential ingredient.

Speaking on the issue, an agricultural scientist associated with KVK Kailashahar Ratan Das said, "The experiment has been conducted at the Jarultali KVK centre. For the last four to five months, we have been carrying out research on the crop."

According to Das, if the desired efforts could be made, a farmer can earn around Rs 10 lakh by employing this technique of greenhouse farming of this crop.
