The strawberry campaign is off to a great start for the Italian company Fe.Vi Frutta

"We currently supply fifty Italian market stands, but soon we will reach seventy"

Demand for Italian strawberries has grown in the south of the country and is being driven by production delays, low supply, and favorable prices.

Maria Ferrara from the fruit and vegetable wholesaler Fe.Vi Frutta: "About 1,500 parcels are coming into the warehouse every day, compared to the 400 of the previous week. We are in the middle of the harvest: fortunately, the strawberries are being picked every day, which is good news for the markets because we can guarantee a constant, albeit limited, quantity in line with demand. The strawberry campaign is off to a good start, especially for the Sabrosa-Candonga variety, with prices slightly higher than last year. Candonga strawberries have been awaited by the market."

In the case of Fe.Vi. Frutta, the deliveries have an impact on a large part of Italy, such as the markets of Rome, Pescara, Milan, Bergamo, and Brescia. "We are talking about 50 market stands, which will increase to over 70 in the coming weeks, as the quantities continue to grow. Some supermarkets in Central and Southern Italy will join. Despite the sunny and mild days, the temperature variations remain considerable. The recent bad weather in Northern Italy, with cold and rain, has not slowed down orders. Consumption has been and continues to remain buoyant throughout the week."

Given the proliferation of soilless areas in the region, the company decided to distinguish and value these crops from those grown in the traditional way. "Strawberries from above-ground plants are packaged in cardboard boxes, while the others are packaged in wooden boxes," explains Ferrara.
