Jamaican Prime Minister praises resilience as vegetable prices drop

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the downward trend in the prices of some vegetables and other farm produce, six months after Hurricane Beryl, indicates Jamaica's resilience and fiscal fitness.

Last July, a category four hurricane ravaged the island, damaging several crops and sending food prices soaring.

On Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Floyd Green announced in Parliament that nearly 70 percent of vegetables saw price reductions, some by as much as 66 percent.

In a video statement yesterday, the Prime Minister said the reduction in some farm gate prices is one of several ways the country has demonstrated its ability to withstand and recover from shocks while maintaining economic stability.
