Water storage optimized with new foil tunnels for Wittenberg Gemüse

Wittenberg Gemüse in Germany wants to make changes so that their strawberry production is more sustainable. Traditionally, they grow strawberries in greenhouses (18ha), which limited them to two harvest seasons a year, with a production break in June, just when demand is high. To fill this gap, Wittenberg Gemüse constructed 5ha of foil tunnels for growing strawberries on a gutter system. This enables them to supply strawberries from March to early December.

Commissioned by Greenhouse Equipment, Genap constructed a network of two ditches and 56 trenches, constructed and lined with Aquatex EX, and installed a 12,000 m³ water basin. This system collects rainwater from the tunnels, transports it to the basin and stores it there. This minimizes the use of well water, contributing to the sustainability of cultivation.

"Thanks to this water storage system, we can now supply strawberries almost year-round and reduce our ecological impact. We are proud of this sustainable step forward," said Kevin van Ijperen, Wittenberg Gemüse.
