NL: Beekenkamp Plants opens new greenhouse

Beekenkamp Plants' new construction project on Korte Kruisweg in Maasdijk has been successfully completed. Within six months, the brand-new 4-hectare greenhouse for outdoor vegetable cultivation was finished. The first vegetable plants are now in the greenhouse, and plants have already been delivered from this new production site.

"With any new construction project, planning is always an exciting challenge, and meeting the deadline is often uncertain. This was certainly the case during the construction of Beekenkamp Plants' new greenhouse. The involved parties considered the timeline demanding, and it was even labeled 'unrealistic' several times. However, thanks to intensive collaboration with all partners, success was almost guaranteed. On May 1, 2024, the first pile for the new facility was driven, demolition of the existing greenhouse began on June 1, 2024, and on January 1, 2025, the new greenhouse was officially put into operation", the team reveals.

"The past six months have marked several key milestones: the driving of the first pile, the complete glazing of the greenhouse, the completion of the new business facilities, and the office expansion for Beekenkamp Packaging", the team adds.

"Placing the first vegetable plants in the greenhouse with the new fully automated transport system is the crowning achievement of this series of milestones. Here's to many more!"

Sustainability and energy efficiency are top priorities at Beekenkamp Plants, and several advancements have been made in these areas. Part of the greenhouse is equipped with a full LED lighting system, and gas is no longer used. Instead, heat from other locations is utilized. Additionally, double and partially triple screen systems have been installed, allowing fans to redistribute heat from the upper part of the greenhouse. The new internal transport system is the facility's innovative showpiece, fully automating the movement of trays and containers in and out of the greenhouse.
