This report provides a trend analysis of the volume and prices of Seasonal Perishable commodities. Volume represents the current week, and prices represent open (spot) market sales by first handlers on products of generally good quality and condition unless otherwise stated and may include promotional allowances or other incentives. The charts provide a graphic representation of the volume and prices of the major commodities this week based on seasonal volume. Seasonal changes have led to a shift in the commodities of interest for this report. Blueberries replaced asparagus, as the number of growing areas for shipping asparagus declined while demand for blueberries increased. This list will be revisited regularly to maintain an accurate representation of the current trade situation affecting shippers of perishable commodities in North America.
Avocado
Movement from Mexico's crossings through Texas is expected to increase slightly. Unseasonal cold temperatures continue to slow crop progress. Trading is very active. Prices are higher. Cartons 2 layers Hass 40s are mostly 80.2582.25, 60s are mostly 63.25-65.25, 70s are mostly 40.25-42.25, and 84s are mostly 30.25-32.25. Available supplies of 3236s and 48s along with organic sizes are insufficient to establish a market as most shipments are delivered against prior bookings and/or previous commitments. Extra services are included. Prices represent very few spot market sales.
Blueberry
Movement from Peru imports, mostly via boat, through Miami, Philadelphia, and New York area ports of entry is expected to remain about the same. Trading is moderate. Prices are higher. Flats 12 1-pint cups with lids large are mostly 20.00- 23.00; flats 12 6-oz cups with lids large are mostly 10.00-12.00; organic flats 12 1-pint cups with lids large are 30.00-33.00. Quality is generally good. Movement from Chile imports, mostly via boat, through Philadelphia ports of entry, is expected to increase seasonally. Trading is moderate. Supplies are in too few hands to establish a market. Quality is generally good.
Cucumber
Movement from Mexico crossings through Nogales, Arizona is expected about the same as unseasonal cold temperatures continue to slow crop progress. Trading is moderate. Prices of Pickles are generally unchanged, Long Seedless are lower, and others are much higher. 1 1/9-bushel cartons medium are mostly 10.95-12.95, fair quality are 8.959.95, ordinary quality are 5.95-7.95; small are 6.95-9.95, large are mostly 10.95-12.95. Cartons 24s are 5.95-6.95, 36s are 6.95-8.95.
Green bell pepper
Movement from Mexico crossings through Nogales, Arizona is expected about the same as unseasonal cold temperatures continue to slow crop progress. Trading is slow. Prices are much lower. 1 1/9-bushel cartons jumbo, extra-large, and large are mostly 10.95, medium are 7.95-9.95; fair quality large are mostly 8.95-10.95, medium are 6.95-8.95. Quality is generally good. Movement from Central and South Florida is expected to remain about the same. Trading is slow.
