Plant-It-Friendly by Blackmore

"There is too much re-potting, discarded tags, and plastic pots"

The horticultural industry has become comfortable retailing plant products in plastic pots. According to studies it is estimated that 95-98% plastic pots end up in the landfill every single year. Blackmore company has said "This is enough" and developed a plastic free retail solution, called Plant-It-Friendly.

"The Plant-It-Friendly retail program from Blackmore eliminates up to 95% plastic at retail. No need for plastic pots or tags. Plant-It-Friendly paper solution reduces cost, labor, and carbon footprint while automating packing of plants, printing of tags & labels. It also increases the dollar per square foot in retail as well as profits for growers and retailer", says Mads Jensen.

There is also an improvement in end user experience/success/information and plant quality. Blackmore has teamed up with Schur, a world leader in packaging. "Together Schur and Blackmore give you the ability to print on demand at the time of shipping with their 95% plastic free retail sleeve and are near the final stages of coming out with a 100% plastic free retail solution."

"There is too much re-potting, discarded tags, and plastic pots", Mads continues. "The retail sleeve solves all these problems. No need to order tags, having to repot, or use a plastic pot that will likely end up in the landfill." The Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that nearly 350 million pounds of plastic containers are discarded by gardeners, garden centers, and garden contractors in the United States and of that only 3.9% are recycled.

Some concerns with the retail sleeve are, "Will the print fade?", "Will this hold up at retail?", "How will it perform being watered often?". "Through intensive testing and product development all of these questions have been answered. The retail sleeve is UV resistant to prevent fading. The retail sleeve also holds up to 15 weeks on the shelf and the padlock design makes it easy to open and close which gives it the ability to drain like any ordinary pot."

Blackmore is proud to present the Plant-It-Friendly retail as part of its Air Tray Technologies™. Air Tray's™ were designed to promote air pruning, giving you the ability to turn product faster. "Labor is your most important asset, so don't waste it!"

All Air Tray's™ are compatible with the Air Tray Racks™, bringing plants to people instead of people to plants. "It also gives you the capability of one person to move up to 400 1-gallon equivalents in Air Trays™ at once depending on your fork length. With Air Trays™ you get air root pruning, automation compatibility, and faster transplanting."
