South Korea: A mother invests into the future of her son

At just 27 years old, with only three years of experience, Euhyun Kim launched a family business. On the outskirts of the city, he built a greenhouse to grow strawberries and other crops. When funding became challenging, his mom sold her house to support him, putting her trust in her son's abilities. In just a few months, all his produce for the year was sold out.

His 3,000-square-meter greenhouse proves the point. Though relatively small, it produces over 15,000 kilograms of premium strawberries annually. It also serves as an educational site where schools bring children to learn about the origins of food. Through visits and lessons, they see how modern horticulture is both highly effective and sustainable.

Starting a business is never easy. Particularly when investors know little about crops and when your mom jumps in the ring for you. This brave young man didn't disappoint her. Though her mom sold her house to support her son, took a huge risk, trusting in her son's drive and skills, he will soon repay her. She also teaches kids about growing food.

To his surprise, Meiny Prins, the Chairman of Priva Group, paid him an unexpected visit. Entering his greenhouse, he mentioned Priva on the visitor's welcoming banner, which for him is a symbol for modern-day greenhouses. Caught off guard while working in the greenhouse, he hadn't known she was coming, which was a nice surprise.
