VBT figures week 3

Rise in tomato prices halted

Since early December, European tomato prices have been climbing out of a trough (up to EUR2.20/kg), but last week VBT median prices here dropped back again (EUR1.77/kg for loose tomatoes and EUR1.67/kg for vine tomatoes). Prices here are just above the five-year average.

For cucumber, the same is not true. Here the middle price has been falling since the start of the new year, to now 59.4 euro cents per head on average over week 3.

Head lettuce dropped to around 0.53 euro/piece in the new year. Lettuces range around 0.70 euros/kg, which is normal for the time of year. Boerenbond notes in a brief analysis of the market situation. The price for lamb's lettuce reached a peak in week 3 similar to last year. An average of 9.26 euros per kilo was paid last week. An average of 6 euros is common in week 3.
