Israel Sánchez Flores, of Frutopía Mx:

"We want to be a viable alternative for European consumers of aromatic herbs"

Europe's aromatic herbs market is constantly expanding and remains open to new sourcing options, driven by a demand for fresh, quality products of reliable origin. Countries such as Spain, the Netherlands, and France represent important logistic and consumption hubs.

Frutopía MX, a Mexican family business with more than 60 years of experience in agricultural production, is looking to break into the competitive European market with its aromatic herbs. Based in Puebla, Mexico, and with a strategic distribution center just minutes from Mexico City International Airport, the company aims to stand out in a sector dominated by suppliers from the Middle East and East Africa.

"The company has developed innovative techniques to guarantee the freshness of its products, combining processes such as hydrocooling and vacuum cooling to maintain the cold chain and ensure that the herbs arrive in optimal condition to international markets," says Israel Sanchez Flores, commercial director of Frutopia MX.

"Production is currently focused on meeting the demand in the Mexican market, especially that from the largest supermarket chains. The range features 50 to 60 products, including aromatic herbs such as coriander and parsley, which are fundamental in Mexican cuisine. Although Frutopía MX already exports to the United States, it aims to explore new markets, with Europe as a priority," he says.

"We want to position ourselves as a viable alternative for European consumers. The company initially plans to export coriander, parsley, basil, mint, and chives, ensuring a constant supply all year round thanks to Mexico's stable climate," says Sánchez Flores.

"Also, the connections by air between Mexico and strategic hubs such as Amsterdam and Madrid give us a competitive advantage in terms of costs and delivery times," he says.

Frutopía MX's participation in Fruit Logistica 2025 in Berlin should help them become better known in the European market. Among the challenges they anticipate are air logistics and the need to establish reliable business partnerships in Europe to guarantee the preservation and distribution of the products. However, Sánchez Flores is optimistic: "We are proud of the chance to offer quality Mexican products and we want to position ourselves as a strong and reliable alternative for the European market."

Although they are open to collaborating with importers, retailers, and other clients, they are currently mostly focused on finding wholesale distributors who can facilitate the efficient distribution and preservation of products in cold storage once they arrive in Europe, says Israel Sánchez Flores.

"To try meeting the needs of the European market, the company has developed a sowing plan adjusted to the acreage ready for sowing," he says.
