Nunhems, BASF's horticultural seed brand, presented Pantani, a new cucumber variety with no star in the fruit.
This new cucumber variety completes BASF | Nunhems' cucumber range for Spain, which includes the Contador, Froome, Olano, Heras, and Ocana varieties.
Say goodbye to the star with Pantani
"Pantani never forms a star", says Antonio Manuel Alonso, account manager at BASF. "That is its biggest advantage because star formation on cucumbers is a problem for sales." This new variety helps growers meet the high-quality standards for this type of cucumber.
The Pantani variety grows on a healthy vigorous plant and is recommended for autumn and spring transplants. The plant has an excellent fruit set and a strong root system.
'Q-verde' quality
BASF | Nunhems' Pantani cucumber will be sold under the brand's 'Q-verde' quality seal (excellence in fruit quality).
"We focus on developing varieties that strengthen our 'Q-verde' quality seal; varieties that stand out for their color, quality, and freshness. All varieties within this quality mark have dark green, uniform fruits with shiny, crispy skin and an excellent postharvest shelf life."
Pantani was created to be the star cucumber for Spain but without a star. It will shine for its color, quality, and regrowth, but never for having a star.
