Tree tomatoes Tamarillo grow in Dutch pepper greenhouse

After almost two years of sowing and tending, the Cultivation & Technology course at Zone College in Zwolle has succeeded: the first fruits of the Solanum betaceum, better known as the tree tomato or tamarillo, have been harvested.

This impressive plant from the Andes, which can grow up to 7.5 meters tall, grew so high in the pepper greenhouse at Zone College that it touched the roof. The orange-red fruits, filled with juicy flesh and a sour-aromatic flavor, are often used in Indonesian cuisine.
