In view of the upcoming 2025 federal election, the Zentralverband Gartenbau (ZVG) has drawn up its demands for the future of the industry. "The general economic situation has noticeably worsened in recent years, which poses immense challenges, especially for medium-sized companies, to which the majority of German horticultural businesses belong," emphasizes ZVG President Eva Kähler-Theuerkauf. The next federal government has the urgent task of giving the German economy prospects for the future and thus returning it to a path of growth.
"Our list of demands shows specific measures for domestic horticulture to ensure its competitiveness, relieve the burden on companies, and maintain regional production," Kähler-Theuerkauf continues. Horticulture has a lot to offer in terms of sustainability and climate protection. However, companies need the right political framework conditions to achieve this.
In view of the growing challenges posed by climate change, high energy prices, a shortage of skilled workers, and increasing bureaucracy, the ZVG is calling for political decisions that will strengthen the competitiveness of the industry and take concrete measures to relieve the burden on companies.
