BASF | Nunhems opens a tomato demonstration greenhouse in Murcia

BASF | Nunhems has opened its second tomato demonstration greenhouse in Spain, in Águilas (Murcia), to show producers and technicians the new tomato varieties resistant to the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV).

"This second farm was commissioned to show our assortment of ToBRFV-resistant products. It demonstrates our commitment to offering resistant and profitable solutions to the market," stated Juan Miguel Agüero, Principal Specialist of Product Development.

Multiple varieties for different markets
BASF | Nunhems has a broad portfolio of tomato varieties resistant to ToBRFV and adapted to different needs and markets.

The company is showcasing different tomato varieties, such as bouquet, loose, pear, and pear tomatoes for export, at its Tomato Experience in Águilas. In the bouquet variety, the company is showcasing Cabosur and Caboluna *, two commercial varieties with which the seed house has had great success in different areas of Almería and Murcia.

In loose tomatoes, BASF is showcasing the NUN 05127* and NUN05128 * varieties at the farm. NUN 05127* is a round, medium-sized, tomato for harvesting without a calyx. It is very productive and mainly suitable for export, thanks to its highly homogeneous fruits, which makes it perfect for any packaging format. NUN05128 * is a round, large-sized tomato (G and GG) mainly suitable for the auction market. Visitors to the farm were able to appreciate its spectacular red color, high firmness, and attractive calyx. The NUN* variety has been very well accepted in the market thanks to these characteristics.

The seed house completed its tomato pear range, which already included the Azovian tomato (a well-established and successful variety on the market), with the new NUN 06229* (about 90 grams of average weight). It also has pear varieties for export, such as Miravian and NUN 06245*.

BASF | Nunhems also has a second rootstock with resistance to the rugose virus, NUN 00057*, which joins Dreampower, a rootstock presented last season. The new rootstock is highly vigorous and maintains a high generative power, which ensures that the grafted variety always maintains an optimum balance, as well as providing extra protection against the rugose virus.

Being close to customers

BASF | Nunhems reinforces its commitment to the customers in the region of Murcia with the opening of its first tomato showroom greenhouse in the area. "Our main objective is to be close to our customers, to know their concerns, their individual needs, and to propose lines of work in which we can be a strategic partner for them," stated Antonio Moreno, sales specialist for the Murcia area.
