Uzbekistan to ban fuel oil for heating and electricity production by 2030

Starting in 2030, the use of fuel oil for heating and electricity generation will be prohibited in Tashkent and the surrounding areas of the Tashkent Region, according to a presidential decree issued on September 24.

From the autumn-winter season of 2025, fuel oil as a backup fuel will only be allowed for heat and electricity production with special approval from the Cabinet of Ministers, which will be granted annually based on weather and technological conditions.

To reduce the environmental impact of coal used in over 1,200 greenhouses around Tashkent, dust and gas cleaning equipment will be installed. Greenhouse operators will receive subsidies to help cover the costs of this equipment.

Additionally, from 2025 to 2030, a "green belt" and "green gardens" will be established on 441 hectares in Tashkent and nearby areas.
