Boosting local agriculture in Kazakhstan: 100 new greenhouses in Aktobe region

In the past year, the "Aul Amanat" program has successfully erected approximately 100 greenhouses in the Aktobe region. These compact facilities have become integral in transforming local agriculture. Positioned mainly in residential areas, these greenhouses have begun to compete effectively with imported goods, capturing 60% of the regional vegetable market.

The new greenhouse complexes have bolstered the region's self-sufficiency and also generated employment opportunities. Annually, these facilities contribute to creating around 70 jobs.

The cultivated area for vegetables within enclosed spaces has surpassed 12,000 square meters. Local produce prices remain consistently lower than imported alternatives, even during off-seasons.

Aibat Erbaziev, Deputy Head of the Regional Department of Agriculture and Land Relations, noted, "Currently, imported tomatoes cost 1.4–2 euros per kilogram, depending on the variety. Meanwhile, locally sourced tomatoes from greenhouses are sold at 1–1.2 euros."

Last year, the region's greenhouses yielded 18,700 tons of tomatoes and 1000 tons of cucumbers, primarily from industrial greenhouse complexes. However, experts anticipate a shift as vegetables from smaller greenhouses, constructed last year, begin to enter the markets.
