In Ordu, greenhouse cultivation is developing day by day, with a special focus placed by the local administration on greenhouse production. With the support and projects implemented in recent years, the greenhouse area, which was only 18 hectares in 2014, increased by 80 % and reached 33 hectares in 2023.
Visiting a grower who is engaged in greenhouse vegetable production in the Caybasi district, Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Kemal Yilmaz said, "Hazelnut production is carried out in 87% of our agricultural lands in Ordu. In the remaining areas, we encourage our producers to grow second or even third crops in order to generate additional income alongside hazelnuts. We support our producers and implement many projects in kiwi and strawberry cultivation. At this point, we got very good results. Significant increases have been achieved in kiwi and strawberry production and greenhouse cultivation in our city."
Emphasizing that important projects have been implemented in the field of greenhouse cultivation in recent years, Yilmaz said, "We are implementing very important projects in order to improve greenhouse vegetable cultivation in our city. With the resources of our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Metropolitan Municipality, and DOKAP Regional Development Administration, we have significantly improved greenhouse vegetable cultivation. In fact, we established 15 new greenhouses of 240 square meters within the framework of the 'Development of Greenhouse in Ordu Province' project, which we implemented in 2023 in cooperation with our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and DOKAP Regional Development Administration. As a result of these efforts, our greenhouse area has increased by 80 percent and reached 33 hectares as of today."
Yilmaz added that they will continue to work on the development of greenhouse cultivation throughout the province.
