According to calculations by Hortoinfo, based on data from the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Junta de Andalucía, the average price of peppers set a new record.
The average price paid to producers, taking into account all types and categories, was €1.23/kg, i.e., €0.40/kg more than in the previous season and €0.55/kg more than ten years ago (2013/2014).
The prices of the different varieties at source
Producers were paid an average of €1.14/kg for the Lamuyo peppers, i.e., €0.25/kg more than in the previous season.
California peppers achieved an average price of € 1.23 per kilo, i.e., € 0.44 more than in the 2021/2022 campaign.
The Italian-type pepper was paid at an average price of €1.00/kg, which is €0.21/kg higher than in the previous season.
Producers were paid an average price of €1.49/kg for the sweet pointed peppers, i.e., € 0.49 more than what they received in the previous campaign.
Finally, the best-paid peppers in the fields were the snack peppers, which were paid at an average of €2.03/kg, which is €0.20/kg more than in the previous campaign.
Consumer prices
Not only was a new record set for prices at the source. In the past season, consumers also paid a record average price of € 2.23 per kilo. In 2021/2022, the average price paid by them was € 2.03 per kilo, and ten seasons ago, in the 2013/2014 campaign, € 1.57 per kilo.
