Pepino Mosaic Virus found in Russia

Since the beginning of 2023, in the Kaliningrad region, more than 64,718 hectares have been examined, 375 samples have been selected for laboratory examination, and 1,616 pheromone and glue traps have been hung out. As a result of the survey, 2 new quarantine objects were identified: strawberry anthracnose and pepino mosaic virus. By orders of the Department, quarantine phytosanitary zones were established, and a quarantine phytosanitary regime was introduced for the identified objects. The owners (users) of regulated objects carry out measures to localize outbreaks and eliminate the population of quarantine objects.

The work is carried out as part of the implementation of the plan to identify quarantine pests and establish the quarantine phytosanitary status of regulated objects in the territory of the Russian Federation using pheromone and color traps in areas of phytosanitary risk.

It should be noted that in the Kaliningrad region, 18 quarantine phytosanitary zones have been established with a total area of more than 43248 hectares for 6 quarantine objects: western flower thrips (2), sharka (pox) plum virus (2), bacterial burn of fruit crops (5), dodder (6), strawberry anthracnose (2), pepino mosaic virus (1).
