BLW Switzerland:

Demand for organic cucumbers remains the same while prices rise

In May 2023, the retail price for organic cucumber rose by CHF 1.05 to CHF 2.89 (+57 %) compared to the previous month. This is probably due to the fact that at the start of the season, domestic produce, which is produced at higher costs, is increasingly on offer, and a higher tariff rate has been applied to imported produce since mid-May. Despite the higher prices, retail sales of organic cucumbers remained almost the same as in the previous month at 526 tonnes (524 tonnes).

May: First organic apricots came into the shops
In May, 96.3 tonnes of organic apricots were sold in the Swiss retail trade. No sales volumes were observed in the previous month. These must have been foreign apricots because the Swiss apricot season starts later. Last year, too, the first quantities of organic apricots were sold in the retail trade in May. However, at 49.5 tonnes, it was significantly less than in May this year.
