US (RI): 1M sq. ft. greenhouse in Exeter to resume construction after court fight

A huge greenhouse that has sat partially built for a couple of years now appears to be on track to be finished. It's at the well-known Schartner Farms in Exeter.

Back in 2021, zoning officials sent a cease and desist letter to the property owner, Tim Schartner of Schartner Farms, turnto10.com reports. In his cease and desist order, Zoning Inspector Hal Morgan writes that Schartner and his associates on the greenhouse project "made clear your collective position that the entire project was exempt from Town oversight, whether it be Zoning, Planning or Building (including electrical, plumbing and mechanical). We, in turn, asked for documentation to confirm these views. You did not provide any materials."

Now, two years later, after a court fight, it's going through the approval process. Schartner told NBC 10 News that the controversy that halted the project appears to be in the past and that he hopes to restart construction later this summer.

The greenhouse would be 1 million square feet.
