Germany purchased more tomatoes from Morocco and fewer from Spain and the Netherlands

According to data prepared by Horotinfo, in the last five years, Germany has increased its tomato purchases from Morocco by 73.16% and reduced its purchases from Spain by 19.09% and from the Netherlands by 26.31%.

According to data from COMTRADE, the Statistics Division of the United Nations (UN), in 2022, Germany imported a total of 633.59 million kilos of tomatoes worth 1,462.56 million euro at an average price of €2.31/kg.

Despite having lowered its sales, the Netherlands continued to be the German market's main tomato supplier in 2022 with a volume of 292.9 million kilos, 104.6 million kilos less than five years earlier (-26.1%), which were sold for a value of 712.06 million euro and an average price of €2.43/kg.

Spain sold 152.64 million kilos of tomatoes to Germany in 2022, i.e., 36.1 million kilos less than in 2018 (-19.09%). Spanish tomato exports to Germany in 2022 amounted to 348.17 million euro and an average price of €2.28/kg.

Morocco is still the German market's third tomato supplier after having sold 70.65 million kilos to this destination in 2022, i.e., 29.85 million kilos more than in 2018 (+73.16%), for 147.42 million euro and an average price of €2.09/kg.
