Meanwell’s new XLG-240/320-48-ABV Series: 240W & 320W agricultural lighting LED power supply

“More flexible and digital intelligent agricultural lighting”

Although LED lighting is now commonly used for lighting in agriculture, it is still essential to be aware of the economic benefits and botanic-friendly conditions of lighting applications. Special requirements, such as wavelength, (color) selection, or application without flicker, need to be considered in lighting use as well.

For this reason, Meanwell has developed a constant voltage output and flicker-free dimming power supply for special lighting fixtures used in horticultural and poultry lighting, the new XLG series in 240W and 320W.

Because of the varying sizes of greenhouses, their lighting is currently designed with constant voltage fixtures and wired in a way that keeps the most common greenhouse sizes in mind. Because of this, the length restrictions would also need to be considered for dimming uniformity. "Meanwell produces an accessory to change the voltage or the current of electricity to make it suitable for greenhouse lamps," says Rick Zhou from Kulon, the company that specializes in supplying Meanwell products.

In addition, the physiological characteristics of crops should be considered, as some of the crops are more sensitive to ambient temperatures and flickers of lighting. This is especially important when the growth of the crops is influenced by the intensity, duration, and spectrum of light exposure.

"Generally speaking, the lighting industry uses 0-10V dimmable drivers combined with a lighting control system for dimming. Meanwell currently offers three kinds of wattages for agricultural lighting products, giving customers more choices according to their site requirements. Also, DALI digital lighting control can be combined with Meanwell's DLC-02 and DAP-04 for the lighting's process control or for different scenario settings if the customers have more flexible and digital intelligent agricultural lighting needs," Rick concludes.

The XLG series is provided to global customers in a standard power supply format.
