2022 has been one of the best years in Oboya's history, and they are determined to continue to grow. Recently, they made a large investment to expand their assortment, and by the end of the year, they will have a local production site in Colombia, enabling them to better serve the North and South American markets.
One-stop shop experience
The concept of Oboya as a manufacturer has always been to supply a one-stop shopping experience to their customers. Robert Wu, Founder and Chairman of this China-based manufacturing company, says: "This is what made and still makes us unique. We produce pots, trays, trolleys, sleeves, and so on. As far as I know, we are the only manufacturer with such a large assortment. This is a competitive advantage for us, and it saves costs for the customer."
Recently, they made a large investment when they bought a thermoforming machine to produce clamshells for soft fruits. "We can make packaging from 127 grams up to whatever size preferred. We always looked for it, and now we have it. With this investment, we have many more possibilities in business." And the first orders have been received already, and soon the first shipment of this new product will go to the Netherlands.
Production location in Colombia
The other investment Wu is excited about is the local production site in Colombia. "This was a longed-for wish that finally came true. We have been making sales in South America but never had our own production facility. With this local service, we are closer to the South American market. It also enables us to better serve the North American market, as the trip from Colombia to Miami is just a couple of days. Also, in this facility, we will produce a range of products for the flowers, fruit, and vegetable growers." The facility is planned to be ready by the end of the year.
Last year was one of Oboya's best years, though not without its challenges. The crisis, as well as the mergers of large companies, created some uncertainties, but it motivated them to explore other markets like South America and Africa. "We are in the mood to expand our markets, but we need to remain careful. We have made a strong comeback, and it looks like we are able to continue growth. But we should not be chasing growth and looking to expand like we did in the past. We want to stay focused on our product development and customer services, a strategy that we have seen paying off last year."
