VBT figures week 17

Belgium: cucumber, TOV mid-prices rise slightly again

Whereas loose tomatoes' prices fell for a third consecutive week, last week, TOVs mid-price rose slightly. The same is true for cucumber, according to the Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives Federation (VBT) weekly figures for week 17.

For cucumbers, that means a still below-average unit price of €0.162. Tomatoes, even the loose ones, are, however, priced well above the five-year average.

That is true for bell peppers, too, even if, since week 14, average prices have been steadily declining. In week 17, red was the best paid at €2.147/kg, orange (€2.485), and yellow (€1.732) followed. At €1.464, green bell peppers were priced almost the same as in week 16.

Aubergine (€0.564 per kilo in week 17), green courgette (€0.256 apiece), and greenhouse cauliflower (rounded off to €2/unit) prices fell slightly.

Lettuce prices are also a mixed picture. Lamb's lettuce and Lollo Rossa prices rose while many other varieties fell.

Strawberry mid prices dropped too. A kilo yielded an average of €4.17 in week 17. At €4.185, Elsanta prices were just above this. Sonsation noted €4.397 per kilogram.

These graphs were pulled from the Flemish Department of Agriculture and Fisheries' agricultural figures page. You can see them all at www.vlaanderen.be/landbouwcijfers. You can see the VBT average week 17 prices for vegetables here. And for fruit, here.
