Glut is forcing Punjab farmers to sell bell peppers at Rs 2/kg

Encouraged by the governments crop diversification push, Mansa farmers switched to growing bell pepper, but excessive produce this year has led to massive price drop, from Rs 25 to Rs 2 YoY.

“This year has been the worst ever,” said one grower. “It is almost like giving it away for free. This will not even recover my input cost.”

A handful of growers gathered at the Bathinda-Mansa National Highway on 20 April with plastic bags full of ripe bell peppers from their fields, spilling them on the road.
