Sale of fruits and vegetables exceeds R$ 60 billion in main Brazilian supply centers

The movement of fruits and vegetables during the last year in the wholesale markets was stable in relation to that registered in 2021, reaching 17.5 million tons. This traded volume represented BRL 61.8 billion moved in the Brazilian economy, an increase of 32.57% when compared to the value traded in 2021. The data refers to the registered commercialization of products in 2022 in the main supply centers in the country.

This performance was influenced both by the lower supply of wholesale products and also by the increase in prices, explained, in part, by the increase in production costs. In the case of vegetables, the quantities of products sold in the supply centers had a reduction of 1.46% in comparison with 2021. the supply was hampered by the rains registered in important producing areas.

In the case of fruits, the analyzes show that there was no recovery in the commercialization of these products in relation to the pre-pandemic period. The year 2022 closed with a small decrease of 3.8% in the total quantity sold compared to 2021 and 4.3% if the comparison is with 2020, with more intense drops in the months of June, July, and August.
